A .pes file is an embroidery design format. PES files include a sewing pattern with instructions that direct the sewing machine to stitch the design on a piece of fabric. PES is one of the most common formats in the embroidery community.
While PES is a standard format, you may find it difficult to find many options for viewing a PES design. Whether you received the PES file or created it, you can convert the design to a standard image format, such as JPEG (.jpg), PNG (.png), GIF (.gif), TIFF (.tif), or BMP (.bmp). JPEG is a great option since it is so widely supported. However, JPEG uses lossy compression that slightly degrades the quality of the design image while reducing the file size. Instead, you can choose PNG or GIF, which uses lossless compression and supports background transparency.
NOTE: Converting a PES design to a common raster image format, such as JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, or BMP allows you to view the design with many image viewers, although it removes the sewing instructions required to stitch the pattern.
