A .mos file is a raster image saved in the Leaf MOS (MOS) format. Various digital camera models, including the Leaf Aptus series, capture photographs in the MOS format. There are two different variations of the MOS format: one features uncompressed image data, while the other variation is based on the TIFF format, which utilizes the original JPEG lossless compression to compress the image data. The format variation depends on the digital back (a device that enables film-based cameras to capture digital images) of the camera used to capture the photograph.

Uncompressed .mos files are often large and are not widely supported by image editors. Therefore, you may want to convert MOS images to other more common formats, such as JPEG (.jpg), PNG (.png), GIF (.gif), or BMP (.bmp). Additionally, converting a MOS file to a compressed format, such as JPEG or PNG, will reduce its file size. However, some image quality will be lost when converting to JPEG. Therefore, you may want to convert MOS images to PNG, which uses lossless compression, or to an uncompressed format like BMP to retain a higher-quality image.
