A .mod file is an audio file saved in the Music Module (MOD) format, which combines audio samples and sequencing data to produce music. The file contains recorded instrument samples and pattern-based instructions that control playback timing, pitch, and effects, allowing users to compose multi-channel songs with compact file sizes.

The MOD format originated in the late 1980s on the Amiga computer, supported by early tracker software such as Ultimate Soundtracker and ProTracker.
