A .cr3 file is a raw photo created by a Canon digital camera, such as the EOS M50 or EOS 4. The photo is saved in an uncompressed, unprocessed format, which allows photographers to edit it more precisely. However, because CR3 files contain all the data captured by a camera's CCD sensor, they are quite large files.

Most image viewers and editors cannot open CR3 files. Therefore, you may want to convert your CR3 file to a more common image format, so you can open and edit it. Converting to the BMP (.bmp), TIFF (.tiff), or PNG (.png) format will retain most of the image's quality. Converting to the JPEG (.jpg) format will noticeably reduce the file's size, but may also reduce its image quality.

NOTE: Converting a CR3 file to a non-raw format removes the raw data it contains. Therefore, you may want to retain a copy of your CR3 file for future editing.
