A .cr2 file is a camera raw image saved in the Canon Raw 2 (CR2) format. Various Canon digital camera models, such as the 350D and 1D MarkII, capture photographs in the CR2 format, which stores the image data in an uncompressed format.

While many image editors support the CR2 format, it is not ideal for sharing digital photographs because it is large and cannot be published online. However, you can convert it to the JPEG (.jpg) format, which reduces the size and is widely supported. One drawback of converting to JPEG is that it reduces the quality of the image, but you can choose the PNG (.png) or TIFF (.tif) formats, which use lossless compression to maintain image quality (but result in larger sizes than JPEG). Additionally, you can convert CR2 images to BMP (.bmp) format to retain image quality since BMP does not utilize any compression but also results in large sizes than JPEG.
