About SGI Files

.sgi Icon

An .sgi file is an image saved in the Silicon Graphics Image format. This format was the native graphics format for many Silicon Graphics workstations. SGI files typically contain color images, shown using RGB color channels.

Because the SGI format is old and mostly obsolete, many image viewers and editors cannot open SGI files. To make working with SGI images easier, you may want to convert them to JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png). Doing so will allow you to open the images in most common image viewing and editing programs.
