A .pptx file is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. It contains a set of slides meant to be shown as a slideshow. Teachers, students, and businesspeople all commonly create and use PPTX presentations. You can open and edit PPTX files with Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, Google Slides, and LibreOffice Impress.

If you want to view a PPTX file's contents outside a presentation program, you can convert it to the PDF (.pdf), PNG (.png), or JPEG (.jpg) format. Just keep in mind that doing so will remove your ability to edit the presentation's content. Typically, PPTX files converted to the PDF format are saved as a single, multi-page document. PPTX files converted to the PNG or JPEG format are saved as multiple images, one for each of the presentation's slides.

NOTE: PowerPoint presentations created by pre-2007 versions of Microsoft PowerPoint were saved as PPT (.ppt) files, which are formatted differently than PPTX files.
