A .kdc file is a raw photo created by a Kodak digital camera, such as the DC40, DC50, or DC120. The image data a KDC file contains is saved exactly as it was recorded by a camera's CCD sensor. Storing a photo in this uncompressed and unprocessed format allows photographers to edit it more precisely. However, it also results in KDC files having quite large file sizes.

Most image viewers and editors cannot open KDC files (or other camera raw files). Therefore, you may want to convert your KDC file to a more common image format, to make it easier to use. If you want to preserve the image's quality, and don't care as much about reducing its file size, convert it to the BMP (.bmp), TIFF (.tiff), or PNG (.png) format. If you want to reduce the image's file size as much as possible, and don't care about possibly losing image quality, convert it to the JPEG (.jpg) format.

NOTE: Converting a KDC file to a non-raw format removes the raw data it contains. Therefore, you may want to retain a copy of your KDC file for future editing.
