An .xhtml file is an Extensible Hypertext Markup Language file, often used as a webpage. XHTML files are similar to the HTML files that make up most web pages but conform to a more-strict XML standard.
Like HTML (.html) and XML (.xml) files, XHTML files are plain text files and can be opened by any web browser. They can be saved as plain text (.txt) to automatically open in a text editor instead of a web browser.
