A .cur file is an image used to skin the Windows mouse pointer. For example, a CUR file might contain the standard Windows cursor arrow or the I-bar shown while editing text. Some CUR files contain a custom cursor image, which you can apply using Windows Control Panel's Mouse settings.

If you want to use the image a CUR file contains elsewhere, you'll likely need to convert it to a more-common image format, such as JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png). Converting a CUR file to the PNG format will retain the image's transparency.
