An .svgz file is a Scalable Vector Graphic (.svg) image that has been compressed using the gzip compression algorithm. These files create images using mathematically-defined shapes, lines, and curves instead of pixels.

Many web browsers and image editing programs can view SCGZ files. To convert an SVGZ graphic to another image format, it must first be rasterized by turning the shapes and paths into pixels. Since many SVGZ graphics have transparency, formats that support transparency like GIF (.gif) and PNG (.png) are ideal.

NOTE: Unlike raster images, vector shapes can be resized without any quality loss, so when exporting an SVGZ file it's wise to resize it first before converting.
