.xpm Icon

An .xpm file is a bitmap image saved in the X PixMap (XPM) ASCII format. The X Windows System primarily uses it for saving icons. Additionally, the format supports grayscale, monochrome, and color pixmap data and transparent pixels.

XPM is an obscure format from the early-1990s but is still supported by several image viewers. Still, converting it to a more widely supported format is beneficial. PNG is a good choice for a target format, especially for XPM icons, since it is lossless and maintains the transparency data stored in the icon.
